My 2020 790 R recently crossed 2000 kms, and its now overheating badly on anything mildly technical . It was 14° (C) today, and the bike stopped multiple times (on hill climbs) due to overheating. For context, I've ridden the same trails (for years) on my 990 in much higher temps (+30 C°) and never had an issue.
Oil and filter change is easy. I do my own every 4,500 miles or so, but that's just me. KTM 690, 790, 990, 1190, 1290. KTM track racing, adventure stories, KTM 50
The dealer doesn't do anything to "unlock" the bike after 620 miles. It's just an oil change and checking torque specs ect. I did mine myself and likely saved $300+. There's YT videos on how to reset the service light and oil change intervals. It also doesn't void the warranty if you use the recommended oil.
I am not a top flight mechanic, but I guarantee that like me, if you have a 790, you can change your own oil and save a few bucks. This video will walk you t
Inserts the green one first. Make sure it’s fits nicely, then insert the yellow layer. With the 790 you need to treat it like a regular dirt bike when riding in dust. The location of the intake is similar to a dirt bike. You should inspect the filter every 150-200km when riding in dust.

Usually unless a bike has screw and locknut valves, you don't need to check them at 600 miles. McMonkies •. Sounds about right. Expensive, but right. hyperion602 • 3 yr. ago. My 2020 790 R was 250 if I recall correctly, but it changes dealer to dealer. Another dealer quoted me 400 fuckin bucks for it.
Oil changed way under the service limits. Longest run was probably 7000 km. Sometimes due to wanting fresh oil before a trip, other times to have fresh oil for winter storage. Always Motorex Powersynt 10/50. Had a Blackstone labs analysis done around 12000 km and all was good. At 25000 km it's pretty darn close to the service interval of 30000bnoYL.
