I’ll tack on - the various item DLC’s work, and the other campaigns DLC’s are selectable (Leliana’s Song, Awakening, etc). The one DLC dude at camp who starts a mission is also there. The best way to trivialize Origins is to learn spell combos like Glyph of Paralysis + Glyph of Repulsion. This effectively stuns entire rooms of enemies and trivializes a majority of fights in the game. Another good mage combo is Petrify + Stonefist. This effectively lets you one shot any priority target like Mages.

Essential games and DLC to play: Dragon Age: Origins Dragon Age: Awakening (Origins expansion) Witch Hunt (Origins DLC) Dragon Age 2 Legacy (DA2 DLC) Those are the important ones. MotA is also a good DLC for DA2, but not really essential story-wise.

Return to Ostagar makes sense after the darkspawn have moved into Lothering because they are now spread further and it is important to culture to honor their dead properly. Warden's keep makes sense after gaining at least one powerful ally because of the potential to gain a base. Personally, I prefer to do Stone Prisoner as early as possible.

For companions in other games, see Companion. The companions in Dragon Age: Origins are the people who accompany the Warden on their journey. The Warden can make decisions which will result in a companion leaving, or even dying. If a companion leaves the Warden or dies, their equipment will be lost. Dragon Age Origins is not a game that was vindicated by its sequels. It was highly regarded in its own time, and many still consider it to be the best entry in the series.
